Cryptsetup fornisce un'interfaccia per configurare la cifratura su
dispositivi a blocchi (come partizioni /home o swap), tramite il device
mapper del kernel Linux dm-crypt. Integra il supporto per LUKS (Linux
Unified Key Setup).
Cryptsetup è compatibile all'indietro con il formato sul disco di
cryptoloop, ma gestisce anche formati più sicuri. Questo pacchetto include
anche il supporto per configurare automaticamente i device cifrati
all'avvio del sistema tramite il file di configurazione /etc/crypttab.
Come funzionalità aggiuntive ci sono la gestione di cryptoroot tramite
initramfs-tools e svariati modi per leggere una passphrase o una
chiave.
Questo pacchetto fornisce i wrapper cryptdisks_start e cryptdisks_stop e
luksformat.
