The list to the right includes various software projects which are of some interest to the Debian GIS Project. Currently, only a few of them are available as Debian packages. It is our goal, however, to include all software in Debian GIS which can sensibly add to a high quality Debian Pure Blend.

Ein geografisches Informationssystem (GIS) verwaltet, analysiert und
visualisiert Datenbanken mit geografischen Informationen. Quantum GIS (QGIS)
unterstützt die Anzeige und Bearbeitung von Dateien im Shapefile-Format, die
Speicherung räumlicher Daten mit PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Projektionen im laufenden
Betrieb (»on-the-fly«) und den Entwurf von Karten sowie über eine
Erweiterungsschnittstelle eine Reihe weiterer Aufgaben. QGIS kann verschiedene
georeferenzierte Raster- und DEM-Formate (Digital Evaluation Model) anzeigen,
einschließlich GeoTIFF, Arc/Info ASCII Grid und USGS ASCII DEM.

SAGA GIS (System for Automated Geoscientific Analyses) is a free and
open source geographic information system used for editing and
analysing spatial data. It includes a large number of modules for the
analysis of vector (point, line and polygon), table, grid and image
data. Among others the package includes modules for geostatistics,
image classification, projections, simulation of dynamic processes
(hydrology, landscape development) and terrain analysis.
The functionality can be accessed through a GUI, the command line or
by using the C++ API.

The SpatiaLite extension enables SQLite to support spatial (geometry) data
in a way conformant to OpenGis specifications, with both WKT and WKB formats.
Spatialite also includes Virtualshape and Virtualtext to enable accessing
shapefiles and csv/text files as virtual tables.
This package contains tools useful to manage SQLite databases.
