Osgeo: infrastructure and miscellanea
packages providing GIS infrastructure and miscellanea
OSGEO Infrastructure and miscellanea
Debian packages for a GIS infrastructure and miscellanea
FIXME: Idea from
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/browser/livedvd/gisvm/trunk/bin/install_icons_and_menus.sh#L34
but needs enhancement
The list to the right includes various software projects which are of some interest to the Debian GIS Project. Currently, only a few of them are available as Debian packages. It is our goal, however, to include all software in Debian GIS which can sensibly add to a high quality Debian Pure Blend.
For a better overview of the project's availability as a Debian package, each head row has a color code according to this scheme:
If you discover a project which looks like a good candidate for Debian GIS
to you, or if you have prepared an unofficial Debian package, please do not hesitate to
send a description of that project to the Debian GIS mailing list

OpenLayers is a pure JavaScript library for displaying map data in
most modern web browsers, with no server-side dependencies.
OpenLayers implements a JavaScript API for building rich web-based
geographic applications, similar to the Google Maps and MSN Virtual
Earth APIs.

The package is enhanced by the following packages:
texmacs

Tilemill is a map design studio for creating custom interactive maps. Data
can be imported, layered and styled, and legends added to the map. The map
can be exported to several formats and easily embedded into a website.
Compatible datasources include ESRI Shapefile, KML, GeoJSON, GeoTIFF,
PostGIS, CSV, and SQLite. For styling the maps, TileMill uses a language
called CartoCSS. Colors, sizes, and shapes can all be manipulated by
applying their relative CartoCS parameters. It is possible to export
pannable, zoomable maps, and static maps in PNG, PDF, and SVG format. For
advanced users, it is possible to export in Mapnik XML format, and exports
can be scripted from the command line.
