HEALPix è un acronimo per Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelization di una sfera. Dask is a flexible parallel computing library for analytics, containing two components.

1. Dynamic task scheduling optimized for computation. This is similar to Airflow, Luigi, Celery, or Make, but optimized for interactive computational workloads.
2. "Big Data" collections like parallel arrays, dataframes, and lists that extend common interfaces like NumPy, Pandas, or Python iterators to larger-than-memory or distributed environments. These parallel collections run on top of the dynamic task schedulers.

Fitsio fornisce un'API facile da usare e orientata agli oggetti che include un'interfaccia Numpy ai file FITS letti da CFITSIO. Ginga è un toolkit progettato per costruire visualizzatori di dati di immagini scientifiche in Python, visualizzando dati di pixel 2D in array numpy. The lmfit Python package provides a simple, flexible interface to non-linear optimization or curve fitting problems. The package extends the optimization capabilities of scipy.optimize by replacing floating pointing values for the variables to be optimized with Parameter objects. These Parameters can be fixed or varied, have upper and/or lower bounds placed on its value, or written as an algebraic expression of other Parameters.

The principal advantage of using Parameters instead of simple variables is that the objective function does not have to be rewritten to reflect every change of what is varied in the fit, or what relationships or constraints are placed on the Parameters. This means a scientific programmer can write a general model that encapsulates the phenomenon to be optimized, and then allow user of that model to change what is varied and fixed, what range of values is acceptable for Parameters, and what constraints are placed on the model. The ease with which the model can be changed also allows one to easily test the significance of certain Parameters in a fitting model.

The lmfit package allows a choice of several optimization methods available from scipy.optimize. The default, and by far best tested optimization method used is the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm from MINPACK-1 as implemented in scipy.optimize.leastsq. This method is by far the most tested and best support method in lmfit, and much of this document assumes this algorithm is used unless explicitly stated. An important point for many scientific analysis is that this is only method that automatically estimates uncertainties and correlations between fitted variables from the covariance matrix calculated during the fit.

A few other optimization routines are also supported, including Nelder-Mead simplex downhill, Powell's method, COBYLA, Sequential Least Squares methods as implemented in scipy.optimize.fmin, and several others from scipy.optimize. In their native form, some of these methods setting allow upper or lower bounds on parameter variables, or adding constraints on fitted variables. By using Parameter objects, lmfit allows bounds and constraints for all of these methods, and makes it easy to swap between methods without hanging the objective function or set of Parameters.

Finally, because the approach derived from MINPACK-1 usin the covariance matrix to determine uncertainties is sometimes questioned (and sometimes rightly so), lmfit supports methods to do a brute force search of the confidence intervals and correlations for sets of parameters.

PyDL consiste di sostituti in Python per funzioni che fanno parte della libreria incorporata in IDL o parte delle librerie astronomiche IDL. L'enfasi è nel riprodurre i risultati delle funzioni della libreria astronomica. Sono implementate solo le funzioni incorporate in IDL strettamente necessarie per permettere ciò.

L'obiettivo sono quattro librerie astronomiche:

• idlutils: una suite generica di strumenti pesantemente usati da SDSS;
• utilità Goddard: The IDL Astronomy User's Library, mantenuta da Wayne Landsman e distribuita con idlutils;
• idlspec2d: strumenti per lavorare con dati spettroscopici SDSS, BOSS e eBOSS;
• photoop: strumenti per lavorare con dati di immagini SDSS.

Questa è la versione per Python 3 del pacchetto.

Wrapper Python per FFTW, la veloce libreria FFT. Il fine ultimo è presentare un'interfaccia unitaria per tutte le possibili trasformazioni che FFTW può effettuare.

Sono gestite sia la DFT complessa che quella reale, così come assi arbitrari di array di forma e passo arbitrari, che la rendono quasi funzionalmente equivalente alle funzioni FFT standard e reali di numpy.fft (inoltre, gestisce il dtype clongdouble, mentre numpy.fft non lo fa).

pyFFTW ha una licenza BSD e non dovrebbe essere confuso con python-fftw, un modulo Python con licenza GPL che ha lo stesso intento di fornire collegamenti Python a FFTW3. Non deve nemmeno essere confuso con python3-gpyfft che fornisce collegamenti alla libreria OpenCL FFT clFFT.

PyMOC fornisce una libreria compatibile con Python per gestire MOC.

Spesso le immagini o i cataloghi delle indagini astronomiche sono sparsi e coprono solo una piccola parte del cielo. In una mappa Multi-Order Coverage l'estensione dei dati in un particolare dataset è messa in cache come immagine maschera pre-calcolata. La natura gerarchica permette veloci operazioni booleane nello spazio delle immagini, senza richiedere di eseguire complessi calcoli geometrici. I servizi come VizieR generalmente offrono le maschere MOC, permettendo un'esperienza più veloce in applicazioni grafiche come Aladin, o per i ricercatori che hanno bisogno di localizzare velocemente quali dataset possono contenere coperture sovrapposte.

La stessa immagine maschera MOC è tassellata e memorizzata nel formato NASA HealPix, codificato dentro a un contenitore di immagini FITS. L'uso del metodo di tassellazione HealPix (Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelization) assicura che la maggiore precisione (pixel) nella maschera sia disponibile quando vengono descritte forme complesse come nell'approssimazione dei bordi dei poligoni o delle indagini, mentre è necessario memorizzare solo una singola grande cella/pixel quando una copertura è completamente all'interno o all'esterno della maschera. I cataloghi possono essere resi sulla maschera come cerchi.

PyRAF is a command language for running IRAF tasks in a Python like environment. It works very similar to IRAF CL, but has been updated to allow such things as importing Python modules, GUI parameter editing and help. It can be imported into Python allowing you to run IRAF commands from within a larger script.

pysynphot simula dati fotometrici e spettri come sono osservati con il telescopio spaziale Hubble (Hubble Space Telescope, HST). Sono disponibili passabande per sistemi fotometrici standard e gli utenti possono incorporare filtri, spettri e dati personali. L'interfaccia utente di pysynphot permette di:

• costruire complicati spettri compositi da varie griglie di modelli di spettri atmosferici, modelli di spettro parametrizzati e atlanti di spettrofotometria stellare;
• simulare osservazioni;
• interrogare le strutture risultanti per le quantità di interesse, come tasso di conteggio, lunghezza d'onda effettiva, stimolo effettivo effettivo, e array di flusso e lunghezza d'onda;
• disegnare curve di sensibilità dell'HST e spettri target per calibrazione;
• calcolare parametri di calibrazione fotometrica per qualsiasi modalità dello strumento dell'HST.

pysynphot può aiutare gli osservatori che usano l'HST ad eseguire simulazioni multistrumento per esaminare la curva di trasmissione dell'OTA (Optical Telescope Assembly) dell'HST e spettri target per calibrazione dell'HST. Questo è un pacchetto per riproiettare immagini astronomiche usando varie tecniche tramite un'interfaccia uniforme. Riproiezione significa la ri-grigliatura delle immagini da un sistema di coordinate mondiali a un altro (per esempio cambiando la risoluzione dei pixel, l'orientamento, il sistema di coordinate). Attualmente è implementata la riproiezione di immagini celesti tramite interpolazione e trovando la sovrapposizione esatta tra pixel sulla sfera celeste. Può anche riproiettare da/verso proiezioni HEALPIX.

SEP makes the core algorithms of Source Extractor available as a library of stand-alone functions and classes. These operate directly on in-memory arrays (no FITS files or configuration files). The code is derived from the Source Extractor code base (written in C) and aims to produce results compatible with Source Extractor whenever possible.

This Python module that wraps the C library in a Pythonic API. The Python wrapper operates on NumPy arrays.

SNCosmo synthesizes supernova spectra and photometry from SN models, and has functions for fitting and sampling SN model parameters given photometric light curve data. It offers fast implementations of several commonly used extinction laws and can be used to construct SN models that include dust. The SNCosmo library includes supernova models such as SALT2, MLCS2k2, Hsiao, Nugent, PSNID, SNANA and Whalen models, as well as a variety of built-in bandpasses and magnitude systems, and provides convenience functions for reading and writing peculiar data formats used in other packages. The library is extensible, allowing new models, bandpasses, and magnitude systems to be defined using an object-oriented interface.

Theano è una libreria Python che permette di definire e valutare efficientemente espressioni matematiche che coinvolgono array multi-dimensionali. Fornisce un linguaggio di espressioni di alto livello in stile Numpy per descrizioni funzionali dei calcoli, riordina le espressioni per velocità e stabilità, e genera istruzioni macchina native per calcoli veloci.
