ALFA measures fluxes in emission line spectra, such as those of planetary nebulae and HII regions, using a genetic algorithm to rapidly optimise fits to large numbers of lines simultaneously. It can subtract night sky emission lines before fitting the nebular lines if necessary. It can read plain text files containing 1D spectral data, or FITS files containing 1D, 2D or 3D datasets.

El programa aa calcula la posición orbital de cuerpos planetarios y realiza una rigurosa reducción de coordenadas a un lugar geocéntrico y topocéntrico aparente (altitud y azimut local). También reduce las posiciones del catálogo de estrellas proporcionadas en el sistema FK4 o FK5. Se incluyen datos de las 57 estrellas navegables. La mayoría de los algoritmos utilizados son del Almanaque Astronomico (The Astronomical Almanac, AA) publicado por la Imprenta del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos (U.S. Government Printing Office).

El programa aa sigue los rigurosos algoritmos para reducción de coordenadas celestes exactamente como se diseñaron en las ediciones actuales del Almanaque Astronómico. La reducción a un lugar geocéntrico aparente ha sido comprobada mediante una versión especial del programa (aa200) que obtiene las posiciones planetarias directamente de la integración numérica DE200 del sistema solar del Laboratorio de Propulsión a Chorro (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). Los resultados concuerdan exactamente con las tablas del Almanaque Astronómico de 1987 en adelante (los Almanaques anteriores usan métodos de reducción ligeramente diferentes).

Ciertos cálculos, como la corrección por inclinación, no se proporcionan explícitamente en el AA pero se referencian. En estos casos el programa realiza los cálculo completos usados para construir las tablas del Almanaque (se proporcionan referencias).

SETI@home is a distributed computing project using Internet-connected computers for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). It searches for possible evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence in radio transmissions collected by the Arecibo radio telescope.

This package contains the SETI@home Enhanced application for the BOINC distributed computing platform. The BOINC client downloads the radio data which the SETI@home application analyzes looking for signals of extraterrestrial origin. Results are then send back to the SETI@home server by the BOINC client.

Note that this package has been primarily created for users of architectures for which SETI@home does not provide its application. If your architecture is x86 or AMD64 the BOINC client automatically downloads the latest SETI@home application if you participate in this project. There is no need to install this package then, except for it to take all technical hurdles from you to have your very custom SETI patch or new compiler flags evaluated. The configuration of BOINC to find the local SETI binary is all performed by the package.

This package only provides command line application. The boinc-app-seti-graphics package provides graphic application.

fitscut is designed to extract cutouts from FITS image format files. FITS, PNG, and JPEG output types are supported. When multiple input files are specified and the output type is PNG or JPEG the resulting image is an RGB color image.

The XPA messaging system provides seamless communication between many kinds of Unix programs, including X programs and Tcl/Tk programs. It also provides an easy way for users to communicate with these XPA-enabled programs by executing XPA client commands in the shell or by utilizing such commands in scripts. Because XPA works both at the programming level and the shell level, it is a powerful tool for unifying any analysis environment: users and programmers have great flexibility in choosing the best level or levels at which to access XPA services, and client access can be extended or modified easily at any time.

The identification of asteroids and comets typically starts with the differential analysis of a series of images taken from the same area of the sky. Objects appearing to be moving are tracked over multiple days.

This software is fed with pixel positions in images in the context of the same for neighbouring stars. From these data it interpolates the position of the presumed near earth object. The results of this analyses are - if the quality of the data allows - sent to the minor planet center (MPC) for archival and comparisons with data from known objects.

Tablator is a utility for converting tables in astronomy into different formats. Tablator can read and write tables in fits, ipac table, hdf5, votable, json, json5, csv, and tsv, and can write html. The emphasis is on speed, so all conversions are done in memory.
