Midnight Commander es más que un simple administrador de archivos. Es una shell con la que los niños pueden explorar y administrar sus propias cuentas. Puede ser de gran ayuda para los más jóvenes, ya que les ahorra algo de escritura (en comparación con el uso directo de una shell de línea de órdenes). También está cargado de potencia y flexibilidad que pueden aprovechar los niños mayores y adultos por igual.

Disk Usage Analyzer is a graphical, menu-driven application to analyse disk usage in a GNOME environment. It can easily scan either the whole filesystem tree, or a specific user-requested directory branch (local or remote).

It also auto-detects in real-time any changes made to your home directory as far as any mounted/unmounted device. Disk Usage Analyzer also provides a full graphical treemap window for each selected folder.

The GNU hello program produces a familiar, friendly greeting. It allows non-programmers to use a classic computer science tool which would otherwise be unavailable to them.

Seriously, though: this is an example of how to do a Debian package. It is the Debian version of the GNU Project's `hello world' program (which is itself an example for the GNU Project).

GNU Midnight Commander is a text-mode full-screen file manager. It uses a two panel interface and a subshell for command execution. It includes an internal editor with syntax highlighting and an internal viewer with support for binary files. Also included is Virtual Filesystem (VFS), that allows files on remote systems (e.g. FTP, SSH servers) and files inside archives to be manipulated like real files.
