Debian Astro Java packages

ADQL est un langage proche de SQL incluant des outils astronomiques pour interroger une base de données. Ce langage a été défini par l'IVOA dans la recommandation du 30 octobre 2008 (version 2.0) et est principalement utilisé dans le protocole d'accès de tables (TAP).

Fonctionnalités du paquet :

 – analyse : lecture de requêtes ADQL en texte et transformation en objet
    Java (arbre syntaxique) ;
 – manipulation : l'objet généré peut être manipulé pour modifier la
    requête d'origine ;
 – traduction : une interface et quelques implémentations permettent de
    traduire ADQL en d'autres langages comme SQL.

La bibliothèque JEL permet aux utilisateurs d'insérer des expressions algébriques dans leurs programmes. Étant donné que JEL convertit directement les expressions en pseudocode Java, il accélère de façon significative leur temps d'évaluation. Si la machine Java virtuelle de l'utilisateur possède un compilateur JIT, les expressions sont converties de façon transparente en code machine natif.

JEL peut être un outil très utile dans une grande variété d'applications scientifiques incorporant des fonctions définies par l'utilisateur, par exemple pour créer des graphiques, pour ajuster des ensembles de données et pour résoudre des intégrales ou des équations différentielles. Des opérations algébriques entre deux colonnes ou plus de tables de bases données offrent un autre cas d'utilisation pertinent pour JEL.

MOC allows you to describe any region of the sky for very fast comparisons. It is based on HEALPix standard. This Java library enables users to load, write and manipulate MOCs (intersection, union, ...). MOCs can be displayed by the Virtual Observatory application "Aladin".

FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) is the standard data format in astronomy used for the transport, analysis, and archival storage of scientific data sets.

This library provides efficient I/O for FITS images and binary tables. All basic FITS formats and gzip compressed files are supported.

This package provides a set of classes which can be used to make lightweight queries of an RI 1.0-compliant IVOA registry. In the Virtual Observatory (VO), registries provide a means for discovering useful resources, i.e., data and services. Individual publishers offer the descriptions for their resources ("resource records") in publishing registries.

This is not an all-singing or all-dancing registry client. The focus is on something which does a limited job fast and in a small memory footprint.

This package provides the necessary infrastructure for writing tasks that do things for users, along the same lines as ADAM A-tasks.

At the moment all the necessary machinery is provided for invoking tasks from the command line in a way that looks ADAM-like, but it is designed so that, for instance, a GUI-style invoker could be written to invoke the same tasks.

The VOTable format is an XML standard for the interchange of data represented as a set of tables. In this context, a table is an unordered set of rows, each of a uniform structure, as specified in the table description (the table metadata). VOTable was designed to be close to the FITS Binary Table format.

CASSIS (Centre d'Analyse Scientifique de Spectres Infrarouges et Submillimetriques), is suited for broad-band spectral surveys to speed up the scientific analysis of high spectral resolution observations. It uses a local spectroscopic database made of the two molecular spectroscopic databases JPL and CDMS, as well as the atomic spectroscopic database NIST. Its tools include a LTE model and the RADEX model connected to the LAMDA molecular collisional database. CASSIS can build a line list fitting the various transitions of a given species and to directly produce rotational diagrams from these lists. CASSIS is fully integrated intoHIPE, the Herschel Interactive Processing Environment, as a plug-in.
