iptables is the userspace command line program used to configure the Linux packet filtering and NAT ruleset. It is targeted towards systems and networks administrators.

iPXE is network boot firmware. It supports a variety of network cards, including some wireless cards, and variety of network protocols (traditional DHCP, BOOTP and TFTP and also HTTP, iSCSI, SAN via FCoE and Infiniband). It supports scripting.

It is possible to use iPXE as a PXE ROM in the network card or to chainload it from other boot methods.

This package provides boot code for all supported network cards in one binary and several bootable formats.

This is the server from the Internet Software Consortium's implementation of DHCP.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol like BOOTP (actually dhcpd includes much of the functionality of bootpd). It gives client machines "leases" for IP addresses and can automatically set their network configuration.

This is the DHCP server with LDAP patches applied to it.

Make an installation able to netboot as an LTSP client. For LTSP servers, also install the suggested packages (dnsmasq etc).

LTSP helps in netbooting LAN clients from a single installation that resides in a chroot or a VM on the LTSP server. This way maintaining tens or hundreds of clients is as easy as maintaining a single PC.

Nagios is a host/service/network monitoring and management system.

The purpose of this addon is to allow you to execute Nagios plugins on a remote host in as transparent a manner as possible.

This program runs as a background process on the remote host and processes command execution requests from the check_nrpe plugin on the Nagios host.

Додатково цей пакунок містить утиліти для особливих типів мережевого обладнання (plipconfig, slattach, mii-tool) та прогресивні аспекти конфигурації IP (iptunnel, ipmaddr).

'hostname' та його друзі вже включено в необхідний пакунок. Вони не встановлюються разом із цим пакунком, оскільки вже є особливий пакунок "hostname*.deb".

На даний час підтримка на рівні ядра сервера NFS є найкращім варіантом у середовищі Linux; в ньому реалізована підтримка NFSv3 й NFSv4, Kerberos через GSS та багато іншого. Також такий сервер зазвичай має більшу продуктивність й надійність, аніж NFS-сервери, що працюють у просторі користувача (з пакунків unfs3 та nfs-user-server). Проте при цьому ускладнюється налагодження та дещо змінюється набір властивостей сервера.

Цей пакунок містить підтримку простору користувача потрібну для використання сервера NFS, що працює на рівні ядра системи. Більшості адміністраторів, які бажають використовувати сервер NFS, рекомендується встановити цей пакунок.

rdiff-backup backs up one directory to another, possibly over a network. The target directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse diffs are stored in a special subdirectory of that target directory, so you can still recover files lost some time ago. The idea is to combine the best features of a mirror and an incremental backup. rdiff-backup also preserves subdirectories, hard links, dev files, permissions, uid/gid ownership, modification times, extended attributes, acls, and resource forks.

Also, rdiff-backup can operate in a bandwidth efficient manner over a pipe, like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to securely back a hard drive up to a remote location, and only the differences will be transmitted. Finally, rdiff-backup is easy to use and settings have sensible defaults.

SquashFS — це файлова система з високим ступенем стиснення, що працює у режимі лише для читання. Вона використовує бібліотеку „zlib“ для стиснення файлів, тек та індексних дескрипторів. Індексні дескриптори у системі дуже маленькі, а всі блоки запаковані для мінімізації займаного місця. Підтримуються блоки розміром більше 4 Кб (аж до 64 Кб).

SquashFS призначена для використання як файлова система лише для читання загального призначення, для стиснення інформації замість архівів *.tar.gz, а також у системах (наприклад, вбудованих), де необхідно економити пам’ять.

Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is a file transfer protocol, mainly to serve boot images over the network to other machines (PXE).

tftp-hpa is an enhanced version of the BSD TFTP client and server. It possesses a number of bugfixes and enhancements over the original.

This package contains the server.

VNC походить від Virtual Network Computing — це, по суті, система дистанційного показу, що дозволяє вам отримати доступ до "стільниці" робочого середовища не тільки на тій машині де воно запущено, але й звідусіль за допомогою Інтернет, з будь-якого під’єднаного до мережі комп’ютера і з машин з самими різними архітектурами.

Цей пакунок встановлює службу, що дозволяє підключатися з віддалених комп’ютерів до даного (на стороні клієнтів використовується vncviewer).

Різниця між tightvncserver і звичайним vncserver — оптимізація кодування даних для каналів з низькою пропускною здатністю. Якщо клієнтське ПЗ не підтримує стиснення jpeg і zlib, то використовується стандартне. Нові версії vncserver (> 3.3.3r2) підтримують новий механізм кодування, що не поступається кодуванню tightvnc.

Зверніть увагу, що цій службі не потрібна наявність монітора на комп’ютері, що виконує її. Програма-клієнт vncviewer може працювати на іншому комп’ютері, можливо з іншою операційною системою.

X2Go is a server based computing environment with

This package contains the main daemon and tools for X2Go server-side session administrations.

xrdp offers a graphical login to a remote client using RDP (the Remote Desktop Protocol). xrdp can connect to a locally created X.org session with the xorgxrdp drivers, to a VNC X11 server, and forward to another RDP server.

xrdp accepts connections from freerdp, rdesktop, and the built-in terminal server / remote desktop clients of Microsoft Windows operating systems. In the xorgxrdp (which replaces X11RDP) and VNC modes, it provides a fully functional Linux terminal server, offering an X-Window desktop to the user. In the RDP or VNC forwarding mode, any sort of desktop can be used.
