GIMP jest zaawansowanym edytorem obrazów. Można go używać do edytowania, poprawiania oraz retuszowania zdjęć i skanów, tworzenia rysunków oraz własnych obrazów. Udostępnia dużą kolekcję profesjonalnych narzędzi edycyjnych i filtrów, podobnych do tych, które można znaleźć w programie Photoshop. Oferuje wiele ustawień oraz funkcji zapewniających pełną kontrolę nad obrazami, w tym warstwy, ścieżki, maski oraz skrypty.

Obsługiwanych jest wiele formatów plików graficznych m.in. pliki JPEG, pliki programów Photoshop (.psd) i Paint Shop Pro (.psp). GIMP może być również używany do skanowania i drukowania zdjęć.

Aby otwierać pliki zdalne (np. za pośrednictwem protokołu HTTP), należy zainstalować pakiet gvfs-backends.

Aby używać urządzenia MIDI (takiego jak muzyczna klawiatura) w charakterze kontrolera wejścia w GIMP-ie, należy zainstalować bibliotekę libasound2 i zapoznać się z instrukcjami znajdującymi się w /usr/share/doc/gimp/ README.MIDI.

Git falls in the category of distributed source code management tools. Every Git working directory is a full-fledged repository with full revision tracking capabilities, not dependent on network access or a central server.

pandas is a Python package providing fast, flexible, and expressive data structures designed to make working with "relational" or "labeled" data both easy and intuitive. It aims to be the fundamental high-level building block for doing practical, real world data analysis in Python. pandas is well suited for many different kinds of data:

• Tabular data with heterogeneously-typed columns, as in an SQL table or Excel spreadsheet

SAOImage DS9 is an astronomical imaging and data visualization application. DS9 supports FITS images and binary tables, multiple frame buffers, region manipulation, and many scale algorithms and colormaps. It provides for easy communication with external analysis tasks and is highly configurable and extensible via XPA and SAMP.

All versions and platforms support a consistent set of GUI and functional capabilities.

DS9 supports advanced features such as 2-D, 3-D and RGB frame buffers, mosaic images, tiling, blinking, geometric markers, colormap manipulation, scaling, arbitrary zoom, cropping, rotation, pan, and a variety of coordinate systems.

The GUI for DS9 is user configurable. GUI elements such as the coordinate display, panner, magnifier, horizontal and vertical graphs, button bar, and color bar can be configured via menus or the command line.

Resample and co-add together FITS images using any arbitrary astrometric projection defined in the WCS standard. The main features of SWarp are:

• FITS format (including multi-extensions) in input and output,
• Full handling of weight-maps in input and output,
• Ability to work with very large images (up to 500 Mpixels on 32-bit machines and 10^6 Tpixels with 64-bits), thanks to customized virtual-memory-mapping and buffering,

• Selectable high-order interpolation method (up to 8-tap filters) in any dimension,
• Compatible with WCS and TNX (IRAF) astrometric descriptions,

ATpy is a high-level Python package providing a way to manipulate tables of astronomical data in a uniform way. It provides built-in support for NumPy recarrays and common astronomical file/database formats (FITS, VO, HDF5, and ASCII tables) with a very simple API.

Much of ATpy’s functionality has now been incorporated into Astropy, and there is no longer active development of new features in ATpy, instead focusing efforts on Astropy.

This program enables you to draw sky charts, making use of the data in 16 catalogs of stars and nebulae. In addition the position of planets, asteroids and comets are shown.

The purpose of this program is to prepare different sky maps for a particular observation. A large number of parameters help you to choose specifically or automatically which catalogs to use, the colour and the dimension of stars and nebulae, the representation of planets, the display of labels and coordinate grids, the superposition of pictures, the condition of visibility and more. All these features make this celestial atlas more complete than a conventional planetarium.
